Blueblood's Bucket Catch 25 Foot High Swarm 2015

This is my unofficial fifth swarm but all I did was capture it for a co-worker who I encouraged to keep bees a couple years ago.  He was excited because the swarm was thought a loss being that high.  That bucket catcher I made last year is a dandy!  I bet that was all of 25 feet.  I tested lowering it ahead me for when I lowered the bucket.  We placed a nuc in that spot.  Like someone mentioned earlier this week, that bucket becomes three to five pounds heavier!  I will drop fast!
Helped Jeremiah Walton with capturing a swarm about 25 feet north in a tree.  I constructed this bucket catcher last year for just this purpose.  Worked out very well.  That is an old expandable pool pole.

Awwwesome! I heard that there was a nuc there but I didn't realize that the nuc was in dropping aim of the bee bucket. NICE!

   Now what is your pole made from Blue?

You can also buy a extendable paint pole that goes to 24 feet.
I took the paint roller screw do hicky out and installed a short section of shower head pipe then used a floor flange on the bottom of the bucket.


But I stopped using it preferring to use my vac with the hose taped to the pole.

Small generator and a 40 foot chunk of pool hose makes it all so much easier! C:-)

Yankee, I committed your video to memory just the time when I would use my bucket.  I did a dry test and had my friend place the nuc where the bucket landed.

I decided not to use the flange pictured above because the bucket would fall off when lowering it down.  My bucket is held by inserting the pole through three straps that help hang on.

I made a light metal plate for the inside and used 1/4 20 bolts to hold it together.





Made the rope guides out of some small PVC to keep the lid cord straight.

Wow, added 3 items to my list for my first cut out tomorrow (scraper, filet knife, pail of water). Perry, got a FB message from our mutual friend Adam, someone contacted him about bees in our neck of the woods. We went to see this guy last weekend, turns out we knew his father. We are going to attempt it, kinda nervous. However, shoutout to the exterminator he called who said "I'll take care of the rats, but I would rather not spray the bees. It'll cost you an arm and a leg, and you can probably find a local beekeeper who will remove them cheap or for free."

I will take lots of pics, constructive criticism welcome  :)

Great video Blueblood.  Thanks for posting.  I was wondering about the weight and being able to control the bucket.
Alleyyooper, the additional weight has be wondering whether I could control something like that.
