Title: After extracting the Honey
Post by: mohawkny on February 13, 2017, 12:16:34 pm
After extracting the honey, how do you get the honey off the bottom of the extractor.  The is always about 12 oz left that will not flow out the honey gate.

Just wondering.

what type of extractor do you have?

if you can tip it forward, let the honey run out and/or use a large spatula.  or just scoop it out!

That is what I do now but do some of you build a stand to set the honey extractor up side down and let the honey run out.

I have a little 2 frame extractor.

I just prop my 20 framer up on one side and that gets almost all of it save a tablespoon or 2.

I let the bees clean it out.

mine gets bolted to the floor (9 frame jobby).  i remove the bolts, tip it forward and scrape the remainder to the honey gate.

you would probably want to find a way to tip and prop it? so it will run out.  the hotter your room is the better.

Like others have said, I tip it to scrape out the bits of honey and wax.  Then I place it outside to let the bees clean it up.  That doesn't take long as by the time I extract there is usually a dearth. I place some of my tools and such out too.  I hate to waste any.
