For those hard to reach swarms (up to 18 feet anyways ladder free) :laugh:
WELL the theory is sound I think, practical application remains to be tested.
Simply expand the pole to the required height, put the water jug gently below the swarm and quickly jab the branch. Bees fall into water jug, and the rest is history, or at least I think it will be.
I am sure one of you have already done this, so any comments? :P

Thanks for the pictures, B&A. It looks like you have found a way to use your long winter nights in NS. Is that a telescoping pole you are using? I bet you can buy the water bottle empty at the store. I like that, no worry about chemical residue. No, I haven't done anything similar. Thanks for the inspiration.

I use a five gallon bucket duct taped to the end of a telescoping grade pole, will get me up to about 30 feet.
Best on I have seen but not tried is like a large sock shaped fine mesh net that when the swarm falls into it you can pull a small rope and the end will close up so the bees don't start to fly out while you are reeling them in.

I have a long stick with a 5 gallon bucket screwed to it. Make sure the stick or pole is sturdy though. I leaned the pole against my shoulder as I was lowering it and the weight of the bees and the bucket snapped the pole. It got ugly fast.

I know right? I think he should tighten the bottom of his jacket some. I really did try not to laugh but I just couldn't help it.

Cool idea and easy to make as well, I just happen to have a telescoping pole here made of fiberglass from an old radio antenna.... Hmmmmmmm off to the shop.

That's a really good setup. I've seen vids on youtube using the same thing.
Just be sure once you get the swarm in there that you retract the pole straight down. I saw one fellow ended up spilling the swarm and it was a mess. :)
