That looks like fun! Must have been later in the afternoon when the rain stopped.  Good timing, good bees!

Our first class started today, and this reminds me of the first class last year. When we got out to our property for the field work in the afternoon this exact thing happened. Kind of embarrassing for me though. :-[

Yes, this was about 2:00 P.M.  The sun came out for about 20 minutes.  Several hives had bees doing their orienting flights, but this one had very different flight patterns. :)  In less than 20 minutes they had swarmed and were in a new home.  Then the sun went under the clouds and all flights stopped.

LOL  I stopped being embarassed about swarms. I TRY to limit them, but when it happens, I tell myself... THEY SWARMED! it means I am doing good keeping them alive and healthy!

Very handy for the new beeks to see.

Lessons ....
1. How docile a swarm is .... little need for gear.
2. How to capture a swarm.
3. Bees fanning on the swarm box.
4. How to prevent a captured swarm from absconding.
