Newspaper combine
« on: May 16, 2017, 06:46:13 pm »
Hi Everyone.  I'm combining a queenless nuc with a queen right nuc, 5 frame deeps, one sheet of newspaper with a few slits cut in it.  How long should I wait before mixing them into a single 10 frame deep?  Thanks!  Ted

If the queen is laying good and there are enough bees to defend the hive you can put over in the single deep box any time after they have chewed through the newspaper

We made up the queenright nuc with 4 frames of brood, one of the frames containing 2 queen cells, and 1 frame of honey.  Queen emerged, mated, and had one frame of eggs and one frame of tiny larva when inspected, so I believe she's laying well.  I was hoping the combine wouldn't take more than a few days as I'm rather pushed for time and need them in a 10 frame deep ASAP.  Thanks Riverrat!  Ted

I'd be more patient but am rather much on the schedule of someone else.  That, and this colony will need another deep soon.

Once they have gone through the paper and co-mingled you're good to go.

The ones I have done only took one to two days.
