If I put wax, like empty comb collected from trapped swarms, and put it in the hives, will it be recycled?

Really? I've watched as my foundation gets nibbled away. I hadn't really thought about it, but I would have assumed they'd work on old comb, too.

I use a solar melter to remove wax from queen excluders. I often just stack the wax bricks from the melter forms from welted wax just outside the melter till I'm walking to the barn to store it with other wax bricks. Bees collect the wax from the bricks and carry it home in the baskets on their legs.

This needs some serious research.
