Unwrapped today!
« on: April 24, 2017, 01:13:19 pm »
Finally the weather broke enough to unwrap. Things look good and strong, a few weak ones but nothing serious. Lots of pollen coming in!

Gosh, it's hard to digest the enormous diference in season between here and Nova Scotia.  Here the hives have been swarming for almost a month.  The first wave of the spring honey flow has begun to subside.

Finished the last yard this afternoon. I wrapped this one a bit differently. I pushed the hives together, as close as the telescoping lids would allow, then slid in 1 1/2" styrofoam between them, and then wrapped them together with a black stretch wrap poly. It worked really well, and took far less time and material than working with the tarpaper.
These hives looked great as well, probably my best yard.

Is that a bee "Smiley Face" on that hive?

Congrats on surviving the winter!

Probably an assortment of willow, crocus, colt's foot, etc.

Nice pics. Very tidy hives.

I could do with some bees that clear away the bodies... or is it something else ?

How does wedging the rear of the hive work for you ?

I have to get creative at times with wedging the hives. With the severe freeze and thaw we experience hives can be on a different tilt from visit to visit.
