February Bees

The girls are out working today!  I don't know what they are finding, or where they are finding it, but it looks like a lot of pollen is coming into the hive.

Small weeds with tiny flowers and flowers sold by the local gardening centers are the only thing that is really blooming right now.  But, a lot of our plants look like they are trying to get there.





BTW:  The bees are no longer grumpy!   8) 8) ;D 8) 8)

Thanks for the video, it's what keeps those of us up north "sane" for a few more months.
Sounds like you're near a bird sanctuary too. ;D

Nice video WM , looks like there bringing in a lot of pollen! I am getting more and excited as the season approaches  :yes:

I should post a pic of all the birds.

Today it's whitwing dove and redwing blackbirds. Wife fills the feeders every morning and the birds hang around all day.

I got a call from my neighbors two doors down about 3 days ago. They have chickens and chicken starter/finisher feed. My bees were all over it! I'm thinking they are real tired of sugar cakes

Looks and sounds like they are finding something to work.  Thanks for the video.
I love Redwing Blackbirds.  Hearing them brings back childhood memories of summer on the farm.

Here are some pics of some of the birds hanging around our house:

Feeding time, reminds me of my grandfather's cows lined up eating, ready to be milked.



A female cardinal sitting on our back porch:



Male cardinal.  Looks kinda chubby.  Either fluffed out for our two day winter, maybe a juvenile:



Redwing Balckbirds, but not as dark in color as the ones showing up later:





Not willing to share the food:



These are the birds Perry heard.  They sit in those bushes, waiting for me to leave the back yard so they can get back to eating:




Kathy doesn't feed this couple of Cara Cara.  We're pretty sure our two mini-dachshunds are too big for them to make a meal out of:

Northern Crested Cara Cara.

They're members of the falcon family, but are often referred to as Mexican Eagles.

'll see them on the side of the road sometimes shoving the turkey buzzards out of the way to get first dibs on whatever roadkill happens to be available.

I think there are several couples in the area, because it seems like I see a lot of them, now that I know what to look for.

WM I don't think I have ever seen one of those birds before. How big is it compared to a red tailed hawk? We have a lot of them around here. And there is a few bald eagles around some of the lakes but not very many.

Green Bee, its a little smaller than the Turkey Buzzards we have around here.

We were sitting on the back porch this morning an a small hawk flew in and dive bombed Wife. She screamed, and it veered off and flew back out.

I told her I wished I had my camera ready as it would have been a great shot.

She said I should be thinking how glad I was it didn't hit her.
