My wife has been really happy with the jars from Walmart. The made in the USA Anchor brand.  There lids I'm sure about for canning but for honey they work.
She was in another town to pick up some she had ordered, one of her former students happened to be the one loading her.  They were talking and finally she asked him if he was curious what the jars were for.  He said yes, especially since she had been flagged in the system for jars and sugar   She explained and sold a quart, lol.   But makes you realize how you maybe being tracked and not knowing it.

So then Dunkel... we now have a cart with a 20 lb sacks of sugar, 1 box or maybe 3 or 4 of Depends (depending on how many hives you have), and canning jars...   :D

The last time I bought sugar the lady in line behind me asked if I had bees.. I as a bit startled, but said yes, it is a rough fall...  She said her son had hives and was also feeding...
If they come kick my door down looking for a still, I hope they warn me first it will get messy... Probably should say... I have enjoyed talking with Yall!!!!

Especially true in NC and in SW Virginia where I grew up Iddee.  Beekeepers and shiners would make good collaborators; I usually buy 15,000 lbs of sugar each year, sometimes 20,000 lbs.  We also have lots of corn in ND Iddee if you're looking for a business partner 8) 8)

This is beginning to sound like my shopping cart. I tell people I am making jelly and I have bees. Lots of sugar and jelly jars.

Years ago, I bought a pallet (2,500 lbs) of sugar from Sams Club.  The young man who forked the pallet on my truck asked me what I was going to do with all that sugar.  I told him my wife was making cookies and that I'd be back later for a load of chocolate chips.  I think he believed me

When I get twenty bags at Costco it's all I can do to push it. I get a lot of looks and comments. When they ask what you are going to do with all that sugar I say there's only two things you can do with this much sugar and that's make shine or feed bees. Then I smile and push the cart on down the isle.

How much rye have you got, Chip? I am more of a rye guy than corn.

We can get all we need.  Just sipped a little rye watching the election returns.  I hear George Washington was a rye fan too; a presidential drink 8)

A smoother drink than corn. Not as much afterburn, if any.

I wonder what this has to do with moisture boards.
OH, well, after a few drinks, it won't matter. ;D

This thread did turn south a while back and I helped!!  Canada has some excellent rye and I always stock up when I come back from my annual hunting trip in Saskatchewan.

I don't use moisture boards, I just tilt the hives forward so the water runs down and out the front. I had nothing to contribute to the thread, so I just followed along when it went south. I guess we need riverbee to get on here and straighten us out.

I was thinking about this while you were typing it.  Suppose we collect the water, it's got the hive essence to it. Probably yummy, and maybe otherwise useful?

Well, back to moisture boards...
I put a moisture board on one hive as an experiment.  I believe they are to be used in place of wedging a popsicle stick or similar to prevent condensation from dripping on the colony.
Still beautiful weather here and my honey bees are trying to find something to forage.  I had some undissolved sugar that had Honey B Healthy mixed in.  It was still in the feeder bucket, so I open fed that and the girls made quick work of that.

And I made a batch of blackberry jelly yesterday.  No shine.  O:-)

Yes. I have been using them for about two years. Not sure what the product is called but I bought it at Menards. I use it above my candy boards and yes I also ventilate the hive. They are not wet when I take them off in the spring and I reuse them. They have the consistency of ceiling tile.
