Dipped candles
« on: October 24, 2016, 04:16:56 pm »
Tried my hand at dipped candles this past weekend.   The 2/0 wick was spot on.

A few more dips.

And a few more.

And finally got the right base diameter.

I let one burn about 5 hours and no drips!  I was impressed.

Some granddaughters showed up just as I was trimming the bottoms so I sent them each on their way with votive candles for jack-o-lanterns and a dipped candle per.  First question when they saw what I was up to?  What scent did you use?!  I mean really?    Ted

Hey Ted:
What did you use for weight on the ends of your wicks in the first pic?
Stainless steel nuts work well and weigh enough to keep the wick taught, and when you're done, you just melt the wax off the nuts by throwing them back in the melter.

Thanks Jen, they were fun and easy to make.

Perry, I tried 2 different ways.  One was with a small steel romaine that kept the wick tight and the other was just loose wicks hanging, no weights.  After two or three dips I just pulled the wicks tight and that straightened them out more or less. They are a little more crude (old timey), in a way I like, and burn just as well.  Ted

Ef: I wish I could take credit for the idea but I saw it somewhere.  Mind you, I only steal the BEST ideas!  Ted
