Interesting, but who on earth would want to manage bees in that environment? I prefer to be surrounded by trees and grass, in fact a couple of my yards have resident eagles nearby I often see and hear.

I agree Perry and just seems wrong for some reason..... Perhaps as populations continue to increase more artificial environments will be developed? Spooky!

Artificial food, artificial light, artificial and sterile environment.

No way for those bees to gain diversity in their diet or get exposed to environmental health hazards that we all need exposure to in order to build our immune systems.

It would a great help to all of use to know the answer to some tough questions that may only be studied in a very controlled location. Example: how many varroa per 300 bees turns a strong hive to a death spiral.

I totally agree CBT. This type of study may very well lead to some answers to some problems bees are having. It would be interesting to see how bees would fair in a controlled environment that you could introduce certain scenarios like varroa mites , or even controlled amounts of of pesticides and herbicides. I think done right there would be a lot that we could learn.  Nice thread thanks for posting it.

Someone is asking the question, "What if?"   Better than saying "If only..."
This takes "prepping" to a whole new level.

I've wondered about bees inside a giant greenhouse, forced monoculture or single-source honey. It might be kinda neat.

That raises a lot of questions in my mind, but also shows promise for learning more about bees..
Ihave to wonder why they SHUT OFF the lights rather than dimming hem slowly on a timer... How do they keep the bees from just going to the lights and staying there? Syrup and pollen sub..    While it may have applications to learn more, I wonder how much that learning would be affected by the artificial environment and lack of natural forage?
If I had a football stadium sized building with the seating filled with flowers I might be able to make that work.. but the RENT would be killer!
